Too much...
In school we are taught to come up with the best ideas even if we're making a simple pencil skech. Today I was surprised to find out that sometimes a desire to make something cool makes you overzealous and doesn't do any good. Simply because it's not needed. I was assigned to create a logo for a hypothetical new brand to be shown in a client presentation. Nothing important, just a shape that holds two words "new brand". So I made a simple circle with "new brand" in it. Only addition: a semi-transparent yellow oil drop. Ties-in with the theme, not complicated. What else do you need to give a client a simple idea that he should use brighter colors? Turns out that in strategic presentations it is too risky to show something more complicated than a simple shape. There is a big chance that the client will think that the sketchy logo is your proposal... and buy it without making any research. So the bottom line is: don't do extra work and be sure you get the assignment the right way.
