One of the great benefits I have while I'm working in Interbrand is the ability to work with people who are not designers. I get projects from people who specialize in marketing and strategic research and even though I do not understand some professional things they are working on, I have a great opportunity to see that design does not depend solely on the designer who creates fantastic masterpieces. Designers are often just a part of a larger process. The works you create are often presented by other people. They steal the applause, but they're also the people who sometimes take the blame.
Working (and studying) with people who have no design knowledge is a useful experience for any designer or artist. It gives you a clearer perspective on what you are doing and is definitely bringing you back to the real world where most don't know anything about pixels, x-hight and drawing proportions.
