Yesterday I realized that the professional design world is not a sugar-coated muffin that it seems to be. I feel like working in a real work environment teaches me how to deal with more things than just the official design stuff. People who work around you have their ambitions, insecurities and opinions. Sometimes you don't agree. Sometimes you do. Here are some things I observed:
1. Looking at other people's bad works and terrible work ethics helps you get better. It might not sound right, but you can really see what you should never do. When you see somebody coming to work late with lame excuses like "my dog threw up" every day of the week, you will know better than ever doing that, unless your dog really throws up. There are always good designers and not so good designers. As strange as it seems, you can learn from both.
2. School taught me a couple of things. I feel comfortable speaking my mind and I feel more comfortable looking at other people's work and seeing what's working and what's not. Thank you, daily crits!
3. Taking criticizm is very important. It's not that easy sometimes. There's this lady at work got very upset after some people tried to explain some things to her that she obviously didn't know. She felt like an idiot. Now she's upset. Winter frost kind of upset. She doesn't talk to anyone in the room and sits there like she's a martyr. Lesson: deal with it.
